West Anbar Crisis Displacement Overview | 3 October 2017
Military operations to retake west Anbar were officially launched on 19 September. IOM Iraq's Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) has been monitoring displacement movements from west Anbar areas since January 2017, particularly the districts of Ana, Al-Ka’im and Ru’ua as a consequence of hostilities in the area. As of 3 October 2017, DTM has tracked 54,546 displaced individuals from West Anbar. (Click here for the Overview)
Reportedly, most IDPs transit through Kilo 18 screening site and then proceed towards camps and out-of-camp locations. However, not all IDPs transit through Kilo 18 screening site as many reach their location of displacement through other routes. The DTM has consequently set up an integrated system composed of a flow monitoring system at Kilo 18 screening site and the regular DTM Emergency Tracking, which tracks IDPs at their location of displace-ment. These two systems are to be used in an integrated manner as the flow monitoring system at Kilo 18 screening site does not fully capture the displacement.
