IOM and MoMD coordination to enhance capacities of finance and administration staff in managing resources during a migration crisis
Following the request of the Honorable Minister of Migration and Displacement to build the capacities of the Ministry’s technical and administrative departments, the EU-funded HIJRA AMINA Programme, implemented by IOM Iraq, conducted a Skills Development for Enhanced Migration Crisis Management training for administration and finance staff, warehouse managers and maintenance engineers from 7 to 10 December 2015 in Erbil.
The training was an opportunity for the general services staff to improve their understanding of the migration crisis and ascertain their roles and responsibilities. The practical training delivered by IOM Iraq experts built knowledge on the response needed during such crisis and also allowed for participants to discuss their contribution and support in allocating resources to ensure that efficient and timely measures are established. The critical importance of effective planning, resource allocation, communication and coordination between the staff in the field and the office were underlined as prerequisites to guarantee rapid deployment of aid to vulnerable populations.
The IOM Iraq staff, having built solid experience in successfully adapting their response to the changing migration crisis in Iraq, shared their know-how with participants and used the forum to exchange views on the role of different stakeholders and on various practices.
